Ready, Set.... Jam!

While the past was grand, the future looks even brighter: formerly the IHRA President’s Cup Nationals, the newly revamped IHRA Maryland Nitro Jam still promises to be a fan favorite, now with a bigger emphasis on the entertainment and format of the event.  And the new face of the Nitro Jam makes its series debut one of the premier racing venues on the east coast- Maryland International Raceway!

Generating new excitement in the series is the addition of new classes.

The Top Fuel field will still be the headliners, but Maryland Nitro Jam will also debut the Pro Fuel classes.  Pro Fuel Dragsters are similar to Top Fuel but with 100% nitro in the tanks, making for a totally different feel and sound.

Another new class is the Prostalgia Nitro Funny Car: vintage funny car bodies with wild paint schemes and colorful designs wrapped around a Nitro Funny Car frame. These eccentric cars have quickly built up fan base and become one of the most popular classes in the country. Coming back to the track are the side by side Jet Trucks.

The new focus on the entertainment aspect of Nitro Jam has created a exciting new feature- the Fanfest.  Fanfest starts at 5:30 pm on Saturday and noon on Sunday.  Fans will have one hour to explore the pits and meet their favorite driver's and crew members.

Included in the list of fan activities is a chance to sign fan-favorite Bobby Lagana’s Top Fuel dragster moments before he makes a 300+ mph pass, a coloring contest where fans can design their own Top Fuel dragster with the winning picture being used as an actual wrap on a dragster later in the season, a reaction time tournament with an actual IHRA tree and a chance to be the race director for a day as fans are selected to draw the first-round pairings of the professional rounds.

In the 43 year history of MIR, this year's Maryland Nitro Jam is projected to be the largest event ever! So don't miss your chance to see some incredible racing and plenty of fan friendly events! Be there this Saturday and Sunday, August 28-29th.
